Mike Weston RIP

Michael Philip Weston (born 21 August 1938 died 24 December 2023) was a former England international player and captain.

Weston was capped twenty-nine times for England between 1960 and 1968, winning twenty-four caps. He scored one try and a drop goal for England. He captained England 5 times, leading his country in all three matches of the 1963 tour to Australia, and then again in the final two matches of his international career in 1968.  Weston was selected for the 1962 British Lions tour to SA, playing in all four matches and also the 1966 British Lions tour to Australia & NZ, where he played in the two internationals against Australia but not in any of the internationals against the All Blacks.

Weston was educated at Durham School, and he played club rugby for Durham City and represented Durham County and North of England. After finishing his playing career he became an England selector and managed the England team at the 1st World Cup in 1987.
